Mission Garden Program

Greenwich Cemetery is very fortunate to have land that has not yet been developed for gravesites. Some of this land has been made available to the nearby Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church for use as their Mission Garden. In this program, the area is plowed and fenced for a summer vegetable garden. Plants and seeds are donated by individuals and local businesses. The Sunday School children plant the garden. Various members volunteer to water and be “weekly garden tenders”. During the summer, the children’s Sunday project is to harvest whatever is ready. The vegetables are weighed and donated to a local food pantry. In the summer of 2011 over 600 pounds of produce was harvested and donated. This is another way that Greenwich Cemetery meets the needs of our local community.
